Did you know that just 30 minutes of gentle movement most days can make a real difference to your blood pressure? You don’t have to run marathons or hit the gym hard, activities like Pilates, walking, cycling or even stretching count.

Pilates is especially great because it blends strength, flexibility and mindful breathing, all of which support heart health in a balanced way. The slow, controlled movements help improve circulation, reduce tension in your muscles, and encourage relaxation, which can all help keep your blood pressure in check.

Even if you’re short on time, short bursts of movement throughout the day add up. Try breaking up long periods of sitting by standing, walking around the room, or doing a few Pilates exercises on your mat.

The key is consistency, not intensity. Moving regularly reduces stress hormones, supports your cardiovascular system and helps maintain a healthy weight, all important factors for managing blood pressure.

So roll out your mat, take a deep breath and give your body some love today. Your heart will thank you! ❤️🧘‍♀️

Your Blood Pressure, Made Simple

When you get your blood pressure checked, you’ll see two numbers, understanding them is easier than you think.

💙 The top number (systolic) is the pressure when your heart is pushing blood out to the rest of your body.

💙 The bottom number (diastolic) is the pressure when your heart is resting in between beats.

Think of it like this:

Top number = how hard your heart’s working during the push

Bottom number = how much pressure stays when it’s resting

A healthy reading is around 120/80 mmHg. If your numbers are regularly higher, it’s worth having a chat with your GP or pharmacist.

It 's important that these numbers aren’t just random, they tell you how healthy your heart and blood vessels are. Knowing them means you can spot any changes early and do something about it.

Do you know your numbers?

💙 It’s here! Know Your Numbers! Week 💙

From today until 14 September, the spotlight is on blood pressure awareness; this year’s theme is ‘Looking for the Missing Millions’.

There are around 5 million UK adults who could be living with high blood pressure without knowing it. Why does that matter? Because high blood pressure is often called the silent killer, you might feel perfectly fine, but it can quietly increase your risk of heart disease, stroke and kidney problems.

The good news is that once you know your numbers, you can take steps to protect your health. You can check your blood pressure:

✅ At home with a monitor

✅ At your pharmacy

✅ With your GP or nurse

This week is your chance to take control, encourage loved ones to do the same, and share the message so nobody gets left out of the count.

Follow me this week for more tips and facts on your blood pressure.
