Controlled Pilates movement
Slower doesn't always mean easier.
In Pilates, slowing an exercise down can actually make it feel much more challenging.
Controlled Pilates movement gives you less momentum to rely on, which means your muscles have to work to control the movement rather than simply getting you from A to B.
It also gives you more time to notice what's happening. Are you holding your breath? Has your body started to twist? Are you still controlling the movement or just trying to finish the repetition?
That's why you'll often hear me reminding you in class to slow things down. I'm not trying to make the exercise easier, sometimes I'm doing exactly the opposite! 😆
Next time you're doing a familiar exercise, try slowing it down and see if it feels different.
