Better Balance

1 min read

Better balance involves much more than simply being able to stand on one leg.

When we think about balance, standing on one leg is probably one of the first things that comes to mind.

But there's much more going on.

Your body uses information from your eyes, inner ear and sensory receptors in your muscles and joints to help work out where you are in space. Strength and your ability to react when your position changes matter too.

That's one reason we use different balance challenges in Pilates.

Sometimes simply changing your base of support, moving your head, reaching an arm or slowing a movement down can make your body work a little harder to keep you steady.

So if you wobble, it doesn't automatically mean you're 'bad at balance'. Your body is receiving information, responding and making adjustments.

And yes, sometimes those wobbles are part of the work!

Save this one for the next time a balance exercise gets you wobbling and follow me for more Pilates tips.
