When joints become stiff, everyday movements start to require more effort. That extra effort means the heart has to work harder, even during simple tasks like walking, climbing stairs or standing up from a chair.

Keeping joints mobile helps movement feel smoother and more efficient. When the body moves better, the heart does not have to work as hard during daily life. Over time, this supports heart health without needing high impact exercise.

Small, regular mobility work really does add up 💛

Move little and often and your heart will thank you.

Try this today. Squats. Notice the height of the chair you sit on and see if you can gradually lower it over the coming weeks. Focus on posture, keep your chest open and push your hips back as you move.

"The very first requirement is to have the mind focused on the body because that is where the challenge begins.” – Joseph Pilates

Joseph Pilates understood that exercise isn’t just about moving your body, it’s about being mentally present while you do it.

When we slow down and truly focus on our movements, stress levels naturally reduce. This matters for heart health because ongoing stress can place extra strain on the heart over time.

By paying attention to how we move and breathe, we start to notice what our body needs more of and what it needs less of. That awareness often leads to better sleep, improved energy and a calmer nervous system.

You don’t need to be perfect, just present. It took me 50 years to practise that one 💛

As we age, circulation can naturally slow, especially in the legs. When blood flow is reduced, the heart has to work harder to move blood around the body.

Walking supports circulation by encouraging blood flow back towards the heart while reducing stiffness and heaviness in the legs 🚶‍♀️

My WalkFit class at Cardinal Hume School is an indoor walking based class designed to keep blood moving in a safe, steady way.

It’s £5 PAYG and bookable anytime 👉 www.dawnchambersfitness.com/book-online 💛
