Foot Awareness

👣 Your feet matter!

We often don't give our feet much thought, they get us from A to B and that's about it. But they're also giving your brain useful information every time you stand and move.

Your feet and joints provide sensory information that helps your brain understand where your body is and what you're standing on. Your brain combines this information with what you see and information from your inner ear to help you keep your balance. This kind of foot awareness can help you notice how you're standing and moving.

That's one reason I like bringing a little awareness to the feet during Pilates. Feeling how your feet are connecting with the floor can change how you stand, balance and move.

Try this next time you're standing: notice where you feel the pressure through your feet. Is it evenly distributed or are you favouring one side?

It's a small thing, but sometimes those little things can make us much more aware of how we move.

Have you ever really thought about what your feet are doing when you stand? 👣
