Pilates Mobility

Mobility or Flexibility?

Mobility and flexibility are often used as though they mean the same thing, but there is a difference.

Flexibility is about how much range of movement you have.

Mobility is about how well you can control that movement.

So you might be flexible enough to reach your toes, but mobility is about being able to move through your available range with control.

That's one reason Pilates mobility work can be so useful. You're not just trying to stretch further; you're working on strength, control and movement through a range.

And mobility isn't just about being able to do impressive stretches. It can help with everyday movements like reaching, bending, getting up and down and turning.
