Strong Bones

Today is World Osteoporosis Day.

Strong bones need the right kinds of challenge throughout life.

When we talk about exercise for bone health, it's important to remember that not all movement challenges our bones in the same way.

Weight-bearing activity such as walking and resistance exercise are particularly important for bone strength. Pilates can also have a useful role by helping to build muscle strength, improve balance, posture and movement confidence.

That combination matters because looking after our bones isn't only about the bones themselves, staying strong and steady can also help reduce the risk of falls as we get older.

Pilates isn't the whole answer to osteoporosis, but it can be one useful part of a varied approach to staying active and strong.

Keep moving, keep challenging your body and give your bones something to respond to.
