Menopause Monday! 💜

Did you know? Stress could be adding inches to your waistline.

Here's the science behind it 👇

During perimenopause and menopause, oestrogen levels fall. This hormonal shift alone can cause the body to store more fat around the abdomen. But add chronic stress into the equation and the effect is significantly amplified.

When we're stressed, our bodies release a hormone called cortisol. And cortisol, particularly when it's elevated over a long period, actively encourages the body to store fat around the middle. It also increases appetite, particularly for high sugar, high fat foods, and disrupts sleep, which in turn raises cortisol further. It becomes a cycle that can feel almost impossible to break. 😔

The good news is Pilates can help💜

Movement, particularly low intensity, mindful movement like Pilates, has been shown to lower cortisol levels. The focused breathing, the body awareness, the sense of community in a class, all of these actively work against the stress response.

You cannot out exercise chronic stress. But you can make choices every week that reduce its impact on your body.

Coming to class is one of them. If you'd like to join us in class comment Pilates or book dierect at www.dawnchambersfitness.com/book-online 💜
