Pilates for Posture ~ Good Posture Isn't About Being Rigid

1 min read

When we think about good posture, we often picture sitting or standing up straight, shoulders back and trying to hold ourselves in the 'right' position.

But our bodies aren't designed to stay still.

Even a good sitting position can start to feel uncomfortable if you've been there for hours. Sometimes what your body needs isn't a better chair or for you to sit up straighter — it simply needs you to move.

Pilates for posture isn't about teaching you to hold one perfect position. It can help build the strength, mobility and body awareness you need to move comfortably and recognise when your body would benefit from a change of position.

So sit tall when it feels good, but don't be afraid to wriggle, stretch, stand up, walk around and move.

How long have you been in the same position today? Maybe this is your reminder to get up and move!

Follow me for more Pilates pointers, exercises and simple ways to keep moving.
