It's Fact Friday and we're looking at some brilliant evidence for why Pilates is a game changer for men who play sport. 💪
🧠 FACT: A study published in the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies found that golfers who completed a Pilates programme improved their club head speed, reduced their handicap and reported significantly less lower back pain.
Let's break down the sport-specific benefits 👇
⛳ GOLF
The golf swing demands thoracic rotation, hip mobility and core stability, all of which Pilates develops directly. Lower back pain is the number one injury complaint among golfers, and tight hips and a weak core are almost always contributing factors. Pilates addresses both.
🏃 RUNNING
Pilates corrects the muscle imbalances that lead to running injuries, weak glutes, tight hip flexors and poor single-leg stability are the usual culprits. Stronger, more balanced runners get injured less and run more efficiently.
⚽ FOOTBALL
Agility, change of direction, explosive power and recovery, Pilates supports all of these. Premier League clubs use Pilates as part of their training and rehabilitation programmes precisely because it works.
And beyond sport, the breathing, the focus, the mindful awareness that Pilates builds? That's good for your mental health too. 💙
