Welcome to Mental Health Awareness Week! 💚
This week (11–17 May) the spotlight is on mental health and I want to talk about the incredibly powerful connection between movement and how we feel mentally. 💜
Here's something I genuinely believe and have seen in the people I work with time and time again as well as myself.
Exercise isn't just about what your body looks like. It's about how your mind feels.
When you move regularly, even gently, your brain releases endorphins and serotonin, your stress hormones lower and your sleep improves. The world looks a little more manageable. The weight you're carrying feels a little lighter. 🌿
Pilates in particular has a beautiful double effect. Because it requires your full attention, your breath, your alignment, your body, it gives your busy mind somewhere to rest. An hour on the mat is often described as the one hour in the week where people truly switch off. 💜
This week I want to remind you that coming to class, taking a walk, doing a few exercises at home, these are not small things. They are acts of care for your mental health.
And if you're going through something difficult right now, be kind to yourself, movement doesn't fix everything....but it helps. 💜
