It's Fact Friday and it's Action on Stroke Month

I'll be sharing some important facts about stroke, why it happens, how movement can help prevent it and the incredible role that keeping active plays in recovery. 💜

🧠 FACT: In the UK, around 100,000 people have a stroke every year, that's one stroke approximately every five minutes.

A stroke happens when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off, either by a blockage (ischaemic stroke, the most common type) or a bleed (haemorrhagic stroke). Without blood and oxygen, brain cells begin to die within minutes.

The effects of a stroke vary hugely depending on where in the brain it occurs and can include difficulties with movement, speech, memory and balance.

This is a topic very close to my heart. My mum recently had a stroke, and watching her recovery has reinforced everything I already believed about the importance of keeping our bodies and minds as strong as possible, not just for ourselves, but so we are resilient if life ever asks more of us. 💜

Throughout May I'll be sharing more facts, movement tips and gentle reminders that what we do on the mat today really does matter for our tomorrow.
