The Ab Prep is one of the most fundamental and important exercises in Pilates and when done correctly, it is so much more effective than a traditional sit up.

Lying on your back with knees bent and feet flat, you take a breath in to prepare. As you exhale, you gently float your head and shoulders off the mat, keeping the back of your neck long and your lower back connected to the floor. Then lower back down with control on the inhale.

The key is the exhalation, let your breath lead the movement rather than hauling yourself up with momentum! 🌬️

✨ Benefits:

• Strengthens the deep abdominal muscles and rectus abdominis

• Builds awareness of spinal alignment and core connection

This is a brilliant foundational exercise that underpins so many other Pilates moves. Get this one right and everything else starts to feel easier. đź’ś

Try 8–10 repetitions and take your time with each one.
